White Wednesday

I’ve been playing around with ASCP lately and finally finished a couple projects to share. I really didn’t have time to do any styling or vignetting yet, but I was happy to get them completed.

I’ve had this desk for a long time and there really isn’t anything special about it except that it’s solid and has good bones.

Here are the befores:

The drawers are dovetailed which is always a good feature.

I thought this piece was vintage from the 1950s or so, but when I turned it upside down, I found remnants of a paper tag that said 1931!  She’s survived pretty well for her age.

And, here it is after.  I’ve moved it to my third floor studio, which I’m in the process of re-doing and hopefully it will be ready by summer.

I kept it very simple without a lot of fuss.  I used ASCP in Old White, did a little distressing, and used a mixture of clear wax with  a touch of dark wax.  I was going to add crystal knobs, but decided to keep the originals and just paint them as well.

As you can see, I left the top in a natural wood color using only tung oil to give it a shine!  I had stripped it years earlier and always loved the wood top.  I’m not sure of the wood,  but it could be walnut or cherry.  It’s definitely not oak, too much grain for maple I think?, and too hard for pine.

Anyhoo, it has the most interesting peg-joined inlays on the top that I just can’t cover up.

There are ten of them on the sides and back.  Also, I’m not sure you can tell from the photo, but the top corners are beveled!

I think I’m going to use this desk as my stamping station for my rubber stamps.

Moving along, I love clock faces and anything with number motifs right now, so I gave this piece a fresh coat of Old White and used rub-on silver leaf for the raised numbers.

I wish I had a before picture, but I don’t. I’ve got to get better at remembering to take the befores!  I’m not sure what kind of clock this came from or how old it is, but it’s a nice thick piece of wood with the most wonderful raised metal numbers.  It was stained very dark and the numbers were a dingy antique gold and they didn’t stand out.

This is on the work table after a coat of paint, but before the distressing, silver leaf, and waxing.

I have it in my studio for now, but I’m not sure where it’s final spot will be. I love the way it turned out.

On a final WHITE note, this was the view from my balcony yesterday morning.

That’s sunshine on the mountain in the distance.

And, this was the view from my sunroom.  You can see the glare of glass. I was inside. You don’t think I was going to go out in this weather do you?

 

And, finally looking toward the pool and hot tub.  Brrrrr…
