Do You Believe In Serendipity?

Well, the time has come.  I’m now an official empty nester.  It sounds like a disease, but I’m trying to embrace my newfound status in life.

You won’t believe what I found Sunday morning, the day after moving my youngest into college…

You heard me right…AN EMPTY NEST!

I couldn’t believe it either!

As I was taking Murphy for his morning walk we so happened to stumble upon a nest that had fallen from the tree above onto the asphalt.

So as I walked back to the house, nest in hand, I couldn’t help but reflect on the natural order of things in nature, animals, and humans.

We are all intended for growth….to leave the nest and soar.

I couldn’t help but wonder how many little birds flew from this nest.  But, alas, mama bird’s job was done and it was time to move on.  Such is life.

Was this symbolic or what?  Talk about serendipity.

Here’s to all the new empty nesters out there.  As for me, I’ve decided to embrace the change with vigor and my new motto is “life’s an adventure”.  I’ll start my adventure with Paris next month, s’il vous plaît!

This has been a whirlwind summer for me.

Au Revoir,

Wow, great post, Kim! I have embraced my empty nest; and I'm having a great deal of fun fluffing my nest! How are you adjusting?

The nest is lovely Kim. Going to Paris will help I am sure. Our CC has been in college for three years now but we always welcome her back for her breaks. She has the house full of her dorm stuff right this minute. She returns to school on Saturday. Your finding the empty nest was very timely. hugs, olive

Learn something new. When we became empty nesters, we took up bicycling again. Since then we have cycled across the USA, through Africa, Europe, and Southeast Asia. It renewed our relationship, and we share an interest in something we both love. Good luck to you.

It takes a while but you will love it once the shock of it wears off. Trust me- xo Diana

Ah, big hugs, Kim.

It's a new chapter, no doubt - and you aren't alone. You will cry some....but our children are ALWAYS our babies!

The empty nest is indeed serendipity - something telling you even Mother Nature understands!

Maybe just a tiny bit envious of the idea of an empty nest--now at almost 45 and starting over with a baby--it will be a long way off!

I have always thought that the 'empty nest' must bring on an entirely new and wonderful relationship with your child and a freshness to your couple-ness!

You will have a wonderful time in Paris--summer has taken so long to get here--I think we will have a great fall!

Kim...what a way to take away the blues of empty nest syndrome than to take a trip to Paris!...Yes, I have been an empty nester for some time now...It was hard for us at first, but we got used to it quickly! :)...Serendipity, oh yes, I believe!....That nest is a keeper! Hope the painting project is coming along nicely!

Notice the mama bird wasn't in the nest either. She probably dusted off her own wings.
