Outdoor Art Solution!

You may recall the POST I did a few weeks ago about the big boring brick wall over the sofa in my loggia.

Well, here it is.

I showed you some examples of outdoor art that I was considering purchasing to hang here and asked you what you thought. You guys had lots of great opinions but it was Bliss who got my mind churning and caused me to switch gears.  Here is her comment:

I like choice #3 best. But I'd really like a great big white washed piece of wood with some vintage graphic on it from the graphics fairy.

Uumm……a piece of white washed wood.
I’m thinking, I’m thinking….
Eureka!  I already had this great architectural salvage shelf that is chippy white and large and horizontally oriented!

Whatdaya think?

Is this not the perfect piece for this space?

I had it hanging the other way (with the shelf on the top) inside, but my husband had the great idea of hanging it this way to form the shelf on the bottom!

Here are a couple pics of it hanging in the basement gameroom.

Do you have any idea what this is made from?

Do any of you know what the center panel is?

It has amazing carved detail.

The cobalt blue bottles are actually Arizona Tea bottles.  They make great flower vases.  I’m not sure they even make the blue bottles anymore.  Anyone know?

I wanted to play around with some color, so I used mason jars with food-colored water.

Not sure if I like the blue or the green better.  What do you think?

I love this piece in the loggia and I can’t thank Bliss enough for giving me the idea.  It’s not white washed and I didn’t use a graphic from the Graphics Fairy (yet!), but I think it’s perfect for now.

And, best of all, it was free!!!

Oh, back to the guessing part.
What is this shelf made from?  The front was actually a …..

The first person to comment and guess it correctly will get a little surprise from me!!!

Good Luck,
Kim

Well, of course I love it! Thanks for the shout out too. Did I save you any money by not buying something?

How about..... part of a piano?

Quite impressive, I must admit. The whole space came together thanks to your creative skills. I do enjoy a red brick wall. What a background for all these objects you selected! I must confess I am a bit curious about that sign, as I do not recall ever encountering a "Suprême Pernot" (a dessert, apparently...) Hmmmm.... Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

I have a similar piece that was my footboard of my old antique bed growing up.

Love it!

I am brand new to your blog after seeing your home tour at Debbie's. I ADORE your home and will be your newest follower. We love visiting the mountains and would ahve moved there but didn't want to leave our kids. I love the piece on the brick wall. I don't know where it came from though, I initially guessed a bed. XO, Pinky

Kim,

I love that piece. But I think I love it even more that you flipped it upside down and used it as a shelf with those pretty Arizona Tea bottles!

Have a wonderful and blessed day!

Well, as luck would have it, the first comment had the correct answer and it was Bliss. IT IS... part of a piano..the front panel from an antique piano! Thanks to everyone who commented and guessed! I'll be sending Bliss something special!!!

Just lovely! I like the way you've hung it. Sometimes you have to go unexpected to make it work.

This is a beautiful way to reuse part of an old piano. It looks much like the one I've had for over 50 years.
