French Daydreams in a New Year

WOW! January 6th already? It’s good to be back home from…

FLORIDA!

Really?

Yes, we spent a wonderful week after Christmas in Orlando for the New Year!!!

The weather was perfect, the food was yummy, the entertainment was exciting, and the fireworks…well, the FIREWORKS were awesome as only Disney can do them! (And, we saw them every night in some park or another…LOL)

Disney World  is one of my family’s favorite destinations.  We always stay at one of the resorts (Boardwalk Inn this time), visit all 4 parks, and see Cirque Du Soleil in Downtown Disney.

But where do I hang out most of the time?

EPCOT, of  course.

It’s fun strolling around the world in a day, sampling various cuisine, and seeing so many multi-cultural differences all in one place, not to mention the shopping.

Did I mention the shopping?

France is my favorite pavillion, and although it’s not the real thing, Disney has done a pretty good job at making the architecture look authentic. There is lots of detail to try to capture the essence of France and it’s nice to imagine oneself being there.

We saw an unbelievable street performance by a pair of French actors/acrobats. It was a  form of mime where there was no spoken language, only the blowing of a whistle and was a comedy about a chef and a waiter.

The younger one playing the waiter kept stacking chairs and climbing up until he finally did a handstand! I can’t tell you how many chairs were stacked but it was a bunch. Can you see the top of the building in relation to where he is? He was really high up with no safety nets! The actor portraying the older chef was always blowing his whistle and interacting with the crowd. He was very funny.

The Impressions de France film was c’est magnifique, the patisserie/boulangerie shop smelled of fresh croissants, the crepes kiosk always had a long line, and the scents from Guerlain were amazing.

On our last evening there, my husband and I had a romantic dinner at Bistro de Paris where we met a charming young waiter from Nice.  He had a gorgeous French accent and gave us tons of info on his hometown and neighboring Monte Carlo.  He also gave us some food and lodging recommendations for when we visit France and asked us to look him up as he would be returning to France in February.

Below is a photo of the view going up the stairs to the restaurant. I love the detail in the wrought iron and the pendant lights looked like they could have come straight from the La Belle Epoque era in Paris.

The food was amazing, my favorites being the truffle soup and escargot in ravioli. I should have taken some photos, but it was such a magical evening and I was caught up in the romance of it all and being with my  handsome husband.  I gave him lots of winks to remind him this is the year we are traveling to France.

It’s a small world after all.

I’m dreaming of French antiques…and getting geared up for an inspiring new year of decorating!

Au Revoir for now,
