Lamp Serendipity

 

I’ve had this pair of Eiffel tower lamp bases for awhile now. I snagged them at a local antique shop for a “song”.  I’m not sure of their age, the patina is nice, and I guess they could be vintage.  Anyway, I knew I would eventually find the right shades for them. It’s hard to pass up a cool Frenchy thing.

 

A few weeks ago, I found a pair of mismatched modern  lamp bases with these great matching French-inspired shades on sale at TJ Maxx for $14 each. I knew exactly where I was going to use them.

Voila!

I’m Headed To The Haven Conference

I’m off to Atlanta to attend the Haven Conference and meet up with lots of awesome new bloggers and famous bloggers, too.  I’m sure there’s lots to learn and lots of fun to be had.  Somebody has to do it.

Me, antiquing in Atlanta at Foxglove Antiques!  I’m staying through the weekend so I’m sure I’ll have time to do what I do best…shop!  There’s lots of great French antiques at Miami Circle Drive in Buckhead!!!

I’m very intense when I’m inspecting antiques.  I love these real clam shells!  So trés chic!  

I can’t wait to give you a full report!

Outdoor Art Dilemma: Help Me Choose, Please!

After much shopping internet surfing, I have narrowed the outdoor art down to Frontgate and Grandin Road ( I know, they’re the same company).

Anyway, I need want a piece of artwork for the large area of brick on my loggia.  I’m really leaning towards something more funky and modern instead of the expected piece of metalwork.

Nice, but maybe too traditional.  Although, I always have hibiscus growing somewhere.

You  know how I love lavender.  This is an actual photograph.

Keep in mind I’ll be replacing the outdoor cushions next year so I can go with whatever colors I want.   Also, the art has to be fairly large.  All of these choices are either 40 X 40 or 24 X 48 size.

Which one should I choose?  Or are they all to cheesy-looking?  Any other ideas?

Nifty and Thrifty and Free!

Don’t you love it when you discover something again that you already have?

Well, here’s my new “old” discovery.  My antique Victorian wrought iron violet or posey stand!  I was cleaning out some things in the pool house, and there she was!

Isn’t it the coolest outdoor decoration?  A sweet friend of mine gave it to me many years ago when I admired the one she had on the deck of her lake home.  She said, “Dear, I have another one similar to it in one of the storage sheds with my other antiques and you can have it if you want it.”  Of course, I tried to remain calm and said, “Well, I’m sure I could use it if you don’t want it anymore.”  Needless to say, we hauled this baby all the way home.

It has 9 removable swing arms and was pretty rusty and crusty when I got it.  I gave it a fresh coat of white years ago.

The Victorians used this as a holder for small potted African violets.  I think it makes a great votive holder.  I’ve had a tabletop version of this, too that I recently sold.

Doesn’t she have this styled beautifully?  I tried to find other examples in photos, but they are so hard to find.

I decided to try mine in the loggia.

It looked pretty lit up at night!

I let a family member borrow it years ago to use in a beautiful outdoor evening wedding.  I just love, love, love garden antiques.
