Décor: A Change In The Foyer

My foyer needed a bit of relaxation.  You know…a little R & R.

I wanted to exchange the formality for something more inviting.

Below is a before photo (even before the current paint job) showing the French Louis Philippe marble top table that we bought specifically for this spot in the foyer when we were building the house.  It is a magnificent table.  It has always been in this spot...this same spot…for almost 7 1/2 years (this reminds me of the familiar story about some old church members who stay in the same pew and seat for years and new members can’t sit there).

The time has come for a change. It’s time for another member to take its place.

I lovingly refer to this piece as “the fruit bench” because of the beautiful carving of fruit and veggies on the back splats.

The rush seat is a little more casual and so quintessential French Country.

I’m not sure I’ll keep the plant here, but for now I like it.

Do you think I need to add something on the wall over the bench?  I’m really working on my inner minimalist right now.  No, really.  It’s a difficult thing for me.  I’ve kept myself from putting lots of stuff back on the walls after the paint job.   I’m finding as I continue on this next phase of my life I’m wanting to edit more of my “things” and practice restraint in my interiors.  I want the room to speak for itself without being overdone and confusing.  It’s very calming and liberating…..and a whole lot less to clean! lol

BTW…the new paint color in the foyer is Sherwin Williams Realist Beige.

I’m thinking less clutter and more simple elegance tends to make a bigger statement.

I guess I’m trying to get my zen on…

Blessings,
Kim

That's a very pretty change. Benches are always so welcoming near the door.

Love the bench and I think I would add a pretty painting above the bench. Maybe an old canvas of a landscape cows grazing. You know, something very French!

Great bench, Kim! I love the size, too. Something like that would fit the wall I'm feeling needs something in our very small entry/foyer. I'd live with it as it is right now and then after a couple of weeks, if you feel it needs something on the wall above it, I'd play around with it.

Beautiful bench, and very inviting. An architectural element over the bench might be an option. Something to compliment, but not necessarily match, the carving in the bench.

Love the bench Kim and those pretty pillows too! I agree with Kim, a pretty piece of art would finish it off beautifully! Your entry is gorgeous!

Your have a gorgeous stairway and foyer, and the bench is charming. I'd pick a bench over a table anyway. Love a place to show pretty pillows. I'd rotate different seasonal pillows on the bench. It going to take just the right piece of art with the slant of the wall. You might consider hanging a grouping of plates or two decorative wall shelf brackets with something on them. What ever you decide, it's going to look lovely.

I really like the change to the bench. I wonder if a candle sconce would work, offset to the side of the bench nearest the door?

The beautiful carvings on the wood bench with the toile and ticking pillows (my favorite's) are very french chic and so lovely! I can't imagine what you could put above it that could make it any more perfect than it is right now!

I love the bench there! I also prefer the clean and elegant look without too much on the walls...

Love the more casual look and all I would add, if anything, would be a small watercolor of sunflowers, a pasture etc. I am so with you on the minimalist look...comes with age in my case but as an empty nester we got the opportunity (were forced) to declutter since we moved from 3500 sf to 2000 sf but it feels and looks so good. you can check it out on my blog as well http://jenrick1.wordpress.com

Kim, the bench is beautiful and inviting. Practical too. How about a long half basket of some sort with flowers, French looking, over the bench. Kelly at Essence of Home has one I like. Olive

Love the bench there!!!...It just sets the tone so beautifully...I say live with the blank wall for now...and soon you will find the perfect thing to place over it.
