SIMPLICITY: Seems To Be The “Buzz” Word In Everybody’s Holiday Decorating This Year

First things first:

I’ve finally decided to do it.  Facebook that is!  Please visit my new Facebook page and Like me on FB.   Click on the Badge to the right or visit http://www.facebook.com/labelleepoquehome

Bear with me…I’m just beginning.  I have a lot of catching up to do with the rest of you savvy bloggers.

Now on with today’s post.

“Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.”  Leonardo da Vinci

Do you believe that?

I think it’s a re-occurring theme this Christmas season in blogland:

SIMPLIFYING THE HOLIDAY DECORATING

I’ve read it over and over on so many blogs the past few days.  I for one am all about simplifying right now.

And the thing is, there’s so much beauty in simplicity.

For example, a gift of vintage red books all tied up with grosgrain ribbon and adorned with a simple French sentiment in a zinc tag.  Who wouldn’t want to receive this?  And so, the present becomes the décor when displayed.  Two for one…I’ll take it.

Did anybody see these great cable knit sweater cone trees at Target?  I snatched them up as soon as I laid eyes on them.  I’m sure a lot of you can make your own.  Simple and classic décor…eh?

Now on to some things I’ve been playing with in preparation for a girls luncheon this Friday at my house.  I had to get out my vintage set of bone-handled French knives and decided to display them in a mason jar for buffet style serving.

I’m crazy about the detail where the stainless meets the sterling cap.

Is this not the coolest cow ever?  Of course it is, she’s French!

I’m gonna use this milk bottle for cream for the coffee.

I’m serving Lorina lemonade for the drinks.  Have any of you ever tried it?  I get it from Whole Foods and it is delish.  My daughter loves it.

I got a couple different flavors this time.  One is blood orange and it looks yummy.  (Of course, I think it looks Hermes orange! lol)

Back to the simple thing…

What comes to your mind when you think of simple holiday decorating?  What does it mean to you?

I think of clean, fresh, chic and elegant all at the same time.

For me, it means less storage and hard work and more time spent with family and friends.

Are you on the “simple” bandwagon this year?

Cheers,

Kim

Kim, I am really enjoying your simple, French decor this year! I scaled back, too. The mantel and tree are the most elaborate things that I have this year. I didn't feel like pulling everything else out, much less, having to put it all away...lol!

I love everything in your beautiful pictures. I'm all for simple and the "less is more" philosophy.

Your simplicity looks lovely. I have changed my colours this year. I usually decorate with reds and greens.

OOOhhhh your party is going to be so awesome- wish I could be there!

There is nothing simple to me about Christmas - I overdecorate all over the place and it is part of the charm for me - but I love the way everyone ELSE is doing it - fresh and clean and simple and natural and just plain awesome.

Yes...simplicity is the message this year...but I think I did not get that email!!...next year...I am definitely "downsizing" my decorations!...but my family laughs!
Love all of your simplistic designs...love the zinc tags on the books and and jars!...Yes, I saw the trees at Target last night...they are so cute...I dare not buy another Christmas decoration ... Famous last words!

I need to head to Target and see if they still have the sweater trees. They are so cute. Target is right by my gym so I make myself hit the gym before I go shopping so I guess I will be going to the gym today.

Each area I decor is simple (I guess) when taken individuall. But when you put it all together - it's a lot of work, but I like a little something in every room and my family enjoys the holiday decorations because they contain lots of memories.

I just love the simple tag on the old red books. What a great idea. I am trying to keep it simpler this year. Less clutter makes me happy. :)
