Giveaway Winner And More Info On The Button Tree

Number 18 was the chosen random comment winner…drum roll please….and it so happens to be the sweet Olive from Olive Out.  Please visit her lovely blog if you haven’t done so.

She will receive all of the goodies pictured above.  Thanks to all those who entered and left a sweet comment.   Congrats to Olive!

From my Handmade Holidays post yesterday, most of the comments were about the super awesome cone tree.  I  know.  It’s soooo cool.  It looks like a high-end décor item.

I thought I’d give you a little more detail for those who might want to make one.

It’s white styrofoam base is 18.5” tall and it’s 22.5” to the top of the decorative finial.  The base diameter is 5”.

I tried to get some close-ups to show you how amazing it is.  It has great textural appeal and is dimensional the way the buttons are layered.

Remember…..I found this in a booth with handmade crafts at an antique mall.   I grabbed it the moment I saw it a couple years ago.  There weren’t any other button cone trees in the booth.   This is why we spend countless hours treasure hunting and combing antique and flea markets….you never know what you might find.  Right?

I wish I could credit myself for designing this, but I can’t.  I have NO idea how many buttons were hot glued to this cone.  I know there are a lot.  And a lot of mother-of-pearl for a nice iridescent sheen.  The stand-out buttons are rhinestone, crystal, and glass which add just the right amount of sparkle.

Good luck to any of you who try this project.  I bet it would look good with all red buttons, or green buttons, or blue buttons…you get the idea.

I’d love to see your results.

Merry Christmas,

Kim

I'm so happy for Olive! Your button tree is beautiful. The other day I saw a cone tree made out of vintage rhinestone jewelry. Same idea I think.

I really did want to win that prize but I'll give up graciously since it was Olive that won! I am going to try my hand at that button tree.
