Catalog Overload

Are you being bombarded with tons of catalogs sent through the mail after the holidays?

I am.

I have thrown soooo many away already. And, most, I don’t even look at. I’m sure this can’t be exactly environmentally responsible with all the paper that’s used. I certainly hope most of it is recycled.

O.K., I must admit. I keep out my favorites, which are typically home décor/furnishing related and enjoy pouring over the pages to see what’s hot, what’s out, and what the latest trends are. Then, I check out their web sites!!!
From a quick glance at some already, I see that the ever popular French style remains to be in vogue.  Country French continues to be re-interpreted in fresh, exiting ways while always maintaining its classy, casual roots.
Thought I’d share a few items I think are French inspiration worthy.
Following five photos from Wisteria:
Love this arched windowless frame that mimics architectural salvage. Also a Louis Philippe style chair, painted furniture, and alter candlesticks (very Italian).

A sunburst plaque on stand! How cool! Definitely a twist on the must-have sunburst mirror.

A trumeau and caned bergere-style chair. Doesn’t get much more Frenchy than that!

Still seeing garden cloches used everywhere indoors and pottery continues to thrive along with weathered wood finishes.

WOW! Give me some modern!  Items such as this lucite ladder bookshelf add drama to classic elements. I love the juxtaposition of antique and modern. I think great antiques stand out against sleek modern pieces.

I’m crazy about light fixtures, and this cut sea glass example with its hemp wrapped frame and tassel has a coastal charm with a nod to old world elegance and French basket chandeliers.

FRENCH COUNTRY STYLE:

Is elegant, not glitzy.

Pays attention to detail, but is never overdone.

Is transcendent of time.

It can be updated with accessories and modern elements yet always looks classic.

It’s just good design.

And, you can’t hardly open a catalog without some sort of Louis-inspired chair! LOL

Blessings,
Kim

Isn't it so fun to look through the latest magazines? I usually end up with a bunch I time have time to go through though. :(

LUV this style, Kim! I've incorporated as much as I can in to my home along with a little Nordic influence which I can't get enough of. :)

Great eye candy. I use to love looking at magazines. Now I find blogs are more fun. I do enjoy the Wisteria catalog. I have three beautiful cloches from there.
