Psssst….I Have An Announcement

We’re really thinking about it.  My husband and I.  We think we are about ready to take the plunge.
We will probably be MOVING in the next year or so.

Where?  Lexington!

We are staying in Kentucky.  That's settled.  It’s our home and we love it here.  If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile you know that we travel to Lexington quite often.  It’s the closet metropolitan area to us a little over 2 hours away.  It’s the “stomping grounds” for most Eastern Kentuckians for shopping, nice restaurants, and entertainment.

We are ready to downsize.  The dilemna?  Downsize to what?

La Belle Époque has been our dream home but it’s time to move forward into the next chapter.

Here are the options we are considering:

1. BUILD a Jack Arnold French Country home OR

2. RENOVATE/RESTORE an historic home!

We have been looking at several grand homes in some of Lexington’s most charming and historic neighborhoods lately.  I love the building process (we've also been pouring over Jack Arnold house plans, too) but I’m not sure if I’m ready to tackle a complete gut job and renovate.

We’re really torn between the two choices.  That’s why we are beginning the house hunting process a head of time so we can make the right decision for us.

New vs Old
Charm/Character vs Pristine
French Country vs ???

I’ll be taking some photos to share with you the types of things we are looking at.  Come to think of it...Is this downsizing??? lol

Any thoughts?  I'd love to hear your opinions.

Blessings,
Kim

We've always lived in an older home, but have to say that I'd be very tempted to build. I think the process would be exciting. Love the example of Jack Arnold home you've shown. Good luck with the process. Lexington is a beautiful town.

Well, we, too, FLUNKED DOWNSIZING as my hubby says! BUT, not nearly as large and grand as what you are contemplating! We were at about 3000 square feet and still are at I find that much to be alot to keep clean!!! Best of luck, can't wait to take the journey with you!

Oh my goodness. This really IS news- because without a doubt La Belle Epoque is the most beautiful home I have ever seen. That is going to be difficult to leave.....but your ideas with the two examples kinda looks pretty danged awesome too.

My sis graduated from U of K - I adore Lexington too. I was just there about a month ago travelling back from the Biltmore.

Well, darlin, it's going to be fun to see what you end up doing. Yay.

Hugs.

You have such a beautiful home, but, you have to do what feels right for you. I know whatever choice you make, you'll make it fabulous.

They are beautiful homes. How to choose from these beauties, I have no idea. My nephew and his family just moved to Kentucky. He is heading up pediatric care at the University. Good luck with your choice and I am excited to see what you pick.

I'm with ya on the downsizing thing...my hubby and I were just talking about it this morning!!...Our home is getting to be too big with the maintenance to go along with it...I love the Jack Arnold idea...He is one of my very favorite architects!.. A great French Country Cottage with a beautiful courtyard..would be wonderful!!...A sort of turn key property...lock the door and go!!!

We plan to retire in about 7 years, if the good Lord is willing as my Mom would say. We'll downsize at that time as well. I love my home, but don't want the expense of upkeep in our retirement. We also want to move closer to our children and grandchildren. We think we'll probably renovate so that things are in new condition to our taste and hopefully afford more for less by tackling a renovation property. I LOVE older homes for the architectural details but also newer home for the convenience and upkeep. If you could build a new house and use architectural salvage pieces - that would be perfect in my opinion!
