You may recall that before I left for Paris, I was in the process of having my entire house painted (here). Yes, every room. I gave the painters a key and said Bon Voyage.
We are in Week 5 and are beginning to wind down. They will probably be finished next week. I’m not even sure what room I’ll start in for the “after” shots. Seriously, EVERY room in my house is affected. This will be a very liberating process. Everything I own is getting cleaned out.
Yes, it was nice to return from France and have the “Ahhh” moment of walking back into freshly painted rooms. And then there was the immediate frown of “Whoa” what a mess.
O.K. I can only put so much back together again quickly. This is not a story of Humpty Dumpty. Of course, I don’t want to put it back quickly.
This is my opportunity to re-think everything from a decorating stand point. And, boy, do I have lots to think about. You will not see me rushing to put things back where they’ve always been. I will not be throwing things back upon the walls in haste.
It’s time for a change. A re-defining of my style, if you will.
Oh, how I love the new neutral paint colors.
It’s clean.
It’s fresh.
It’s updated.
Ahhhhhh,
I’m gonna have fun.
For now, here’s the master bedroom with the mattress set on the floor. The Ethan Allen Alessandra upholstered bed is scheduled for delivery in a couple weeks and the antique armoire is still having it’s shelves covered in toile. (I’m kinda digging this less –is -more concept in décor)
In the meantime, just give me an espresso and a fresh croissant, s’l vous plaît! Whoops, I’m not in France anymore….. but I think I left my heart in Paris!
Au Revoir,
Kim
P.S. Please visit my friend Cat’s blog, Sunday Brocantes, where she did a post about our day trip to Normandy (here).

Welcome back! You will have to share what colors you painted your rooms. I know it's all going to turn out lovely!
You go girl! That's the way it should be done! A trip to Paris and a freshly painted house :)
Love the neutrals!

Welcome back Kim! Looking forward to seeing all the changes!
What anticipation, I cannot WAIT - looking clean and freshened up already with the few pics we've been shown, how exciting!
Tres bien!!!
Bonjour Kim. Thank you for your visit chez French Girl yesterday. Sounds like *someone* had a wonderful time in my homeland. You were also very wise to have contractors work on your house while you were away. A little bit (or a lot) of mess was worth it to return to a "brand-new home." Congrats. Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
We just might have been in France at the same time. We were there in September for three weeks (two weeks bicycling from Paris to parts of Burgundy), and then I spent a week solo in Paris. When were you there? I think you will enjoy the less is more look.
I'm loving the colors already! You're looking very stylish, btw!
You are so adorable in your boots. I would settle for having a clean house from top to bottom:}
I am so excited to see the new colors you picked.
You go girl! Take your time and we'll be thrilled to see the progress. ~ Maureen
I love the changes Kim!!...I love the dining room treatment...I had a similar wide stripe treatment in Florida by using two different finishes flat/satin...Is this how you did it?....I love the Paris pics...hopping over to give Cat a visit!
Kim, just visited Cat's post today...I must say that you look like you belong in Paris and that you have known Cat all your life...such a wonderful friendship. I have so enjoyed her post!...Glad you had such a wonderful Paris experience and I am sure you are counting the days to your next visit!
What a great opportunity to start afresh - like buying a new house and rethinking everything - almost! It is nice that you have just returned from an amazing trip so you are recharged and ready to take on this fun project.
Absolutely gorgeous choices for the new look! I especially love the subtle stripes in your dining room!
The day went way too fast my friend! So many more places to go, shops to visit, things to eat....wine to sip!
Are you ready to come back yet?! : )
xx!
Kim, I have no doubt your home will be gorgeous. I am looking forward to seeing more about your trip.
