A Tale Of Two Chairs (Or, I Can’t Believe The Difference In Price: A Lesson In Frugality)

Which would you chose?

This one?

Or this one?

Are they simliar? Heck yes!

Are they French in style? Heck yes!

Are they priced differently? Heck yes!

Do I need another chair? Heck yes!  (well, NO, but I was on a roll)

Price tag of the lovely (sarcasm here) orange velvet Louis XV style chair.  The price keeps coming down the longer it stays in the sale room.  Are you kidding me?  Think I should wait until September 20th to get it for $38 or pay $57 in August?  Structurally the bones are good and it has nice detailed carving.  And, it just so happens that I have the perfect linen/cotton blend upholstery that would do it proud.

I almost forgot. The price of the brand spanking new Louis XV chair?  $1259.

Why am I still at the computer?  I need to drop everything and run to pick up the Orange Crush chair before it’s too late.

I’ll let you  know what happens.

Au Revoir,

Kim

  1. That's a great chair. I can't help myself where chairs are concern. And the price well it speaks for it self. Can't wait to see what you decide.

  11. Hello, I'm a new follower and love your blog as I love all things french! I'm presently in search of a small french chair to go with my inherited sofa and chair! As I now live in an apt, the 2 wingback chairs I have are just too large. I look forward to see what you do with the orange chair, assuming you have bought it now. : )
Hope you can stop by and join us at Frugal Treasures Tuesday party starting this evening!

  13. Not sure if you've already made the choice, but wasn't it pretty much made for you? The orange chair has the same bones as the spendier piece, meaning you can make it look almost exactly the same for WAY less money. Not that money matters too much when it comes to style. But in this case, it does! :)

  14. Of course now you're in Paris and I'm dying to know if you got the chair?!! At $57 it's a steal, at $38 they might as well just give it away *winks* And I don't like the upholstery on the expensive chair. Those lines in the back are icky *winks* I have the same chair in yellow/gold velvet.....I can't remember what I paid now, but something comparable, and people are always offering me more money for it...so I hope you picked up the darn chair even if just for resale *winks* Vanna
